I have many (several hundred) backlinks from PR8 and PR9 sites that are marked as NOFOLLOW. Most of these links are from posts in blogs, comments on articles, etc. I don't expect any PR juice to follow from the links, they're simply me adding to the conversation.
None of these links were showing up in my webmaster tools list of backlinks. I expected that - they are essentially ignored by the Googlebot other than to note the location of the link so that it can be indexed at a later date. The fact that the links didn't show in my list of backlinks didn't bother me.
However, the other day I was browsing through my list of backlinks (over 42,000 now), I started finding these weird backlinks from PR8 and PR9 sites. I made a check and the links are stilled marked as NOFOLLOW, but they now show up in my list of backlinks.
Has Google just now started including these links in the webmaster tools? Do they have some weight, even though they are marked as NOFOLLOW? Or did I just miss them when I was looking before?
Something to ponder...

I noticed this the other day too. Even .edu blog comments are coming through even if they nofollow. However, I don't think they are passing juice. It seems strange for them to show up though if they aren't. You would think "the mean filter" would eliminate them.
It's strange that I've never noticed them before. I know they can't be passing any PR juice, but they are listed in the webmaster backlinks.
You won't find them anywhere on Google though when you do a search using the site: operator.
Very interesting that this is happening. I wonder if this is a test/leak of a new google algo in the works?
Hi Perros!
That's exactly what I was thinking. I have a feeling that the role the NOFOLLOW tag plays is going to change over the next couple of quarters, even if its only a slight change.
Interesting that it is happening. It will be wonderful for you if Google decides to give NO Follow some SEO weight... your links from PR8 and PR9 will definitely help... ;-)
i'm still confused. but i get the feeling that google like we are having a state of confusion. maybe they felt by doing this they could get more biz or the internet industries would grow. if they ask paid links seller to put nofollow tag
so it won't effect search ranking why would nofollow tag from high PR blog should effect search ranking.
Thank you,That's exactly what I was thinking

I have the following data:-
"nofollow" does not pass pr. Does not help in SERP of google and msn. Even if shown as backlinks they have no effect.
In Yahoo backlinks count and also help in Yahoo WebRank.

I've never seen G show a no follow. maybe I need to pay more attention?
Is there a difference between nofollow and external nofollow?
If so, this may have something to do with it.
